Description
NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data in the North Pacific Ocean from 2018-07-15 to 2018-07-25. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations (OMAO) personnel submitted the data and supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL) to NCEI. The data were archived via an automated process under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (NOAA R2R) program.
Use Cases
Modeling air-sea heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship track influence on optical measurements for sensor calibration.
Correlating navigational data with physical oceanographic profiles for spatial analysis.
Validating time series sensor data against logged cruise-level metadata from the SDAL.
Strengths
Data collection spans a specific 11-day cruise from 2018-07-15 to 2018-07-25.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Archived via a formal automated process under the NOAA R2R program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
