Description
From 2018-06-23 to 2018 07-10, raw underway data was logged aboard the NOAA Ship Gordon Gunter in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Ocean. The dataset contains meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data collected via the ship's Scientific Computer System (SCS). It was submitted by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel and archived by NCEI as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) program.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship track influence on optical measurements for instrument calibration.
Correlating navigational data with physical profile measurements for spatial analysis.
Studying short-term temporal variability in marine conditions using the time series data.
Strengths
Data spans a specific 18-day cruise from June 23 to July 10, 2018.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series.
Collected via an automated process under the NOAA R2R program, suggesting standardized logging.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
