Description
North Atlantic Ocean data collected aboard the NOAA Ship Gordon Gunter from August 14 to August 31, 2019. The dataset contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System (SCS). It was submitted by NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations and archived by the National Centers for Environmental Information as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling marine meteorological conditions based on the described underway meteorological data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns in the North Atlantic based on the navigational data.
Studying oceanographic profiles and time series for physical and optical properties.
Validating automated data logging and archival processes like the NOAA R2R program.
Strengths
Data collection spans a specific 18-day period from 2019 08-14 to 2019-08-31.
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, time series) logged from a single research vessel.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
