Description
NOAA Ship Gordon Gunter collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2019-09-08 to 2019-09-17. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data and supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log to the National Centers for Environmental Information via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and environmental conditions based on logged navigational and optical data.
Studying short-term oceanographic profiles and time series for a specific cruise track.
Validating satellite or model data against in-situ shipborne measurements from a known platform.
Strengths
Data includes multiple measurement types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, time series) logged during a dedicated cruise.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data collection follows an automated archival process under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file formats are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
