Description
NOAA Ship Henry B. Bigelow collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data in the Gulf of Mexico and North Atlantic Ocean from October 2020 to February 2021. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System to the National Centers for Environmental Information. The data were archived through the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program and include supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship track influence on optical measurements based on navigational and optical data.
Studying water column structure and variability based on profile and time series data.
Validating satellite-derived oceanographic products based on in-situ physical and optical measurements.
Strengths
Data collection spans a specific 4.5-month period from 2020-10-01 to 2021-02-17.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series.
Data is part of the formal NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program, suggesting a standardized collection process.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
