Description
The Gulf of Mexico is the geographic scope for this dataset. It contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data logged aboard the NOAA Ship Oregon II from June 7 to July 20, 2016. Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel submitted the data and supplementary cruise-level metadata as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling sea surface temperature and atmospheric pressure relationships based on the physical and meteorological data mentioned.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and their correlation with optical water properties based on the navigational and optical data streams.
Creating time-series profiles of oceanographic conditions during the summer 2016 cruise period based on the profile and time series data.
Validating automated data logging and archival processes for research vessels based on the NOAA R2R program methodology described.
Strengths
Data covers a specific 44-day cruise in the Gulf of Mexico from 2016-06-07 to 2016-07 20.
Includes multiple concurrent data streams: meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log (SDAL).
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
