Description
Raw underway data logged by the Scientific Computer System aboard NOAA Ship Oregon II during a cruise in the Gulf of Mexico from 2018-04-27 to 2018-05-25. The dataset includes meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series measurements submitted by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel. Supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log is also included, archived via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Correlate meteorological conditions with oceanographic profiles based on the described meteorological and physical data.
Analyze ship navigation patterns and environmental sampling routes based on the navigational data.
Model time-series changes in ocean optical properties based on the optical data mentioned.
Validate automated data logging and archival processes for research vessels based on the NOAA R2R program context.
Strengths
Data covers a specific 29-day cruise from 2018-04-27 to 2018-05-25, providing a focused temporal snapshot.
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, time series) logged from a single platform.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log for context.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
