Description
NOAA Ship Pisces collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series data in the Gulf of Mexico from 2019-08-21 to 2019-09 25. The data were logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System (SCS) and submitted to the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI) by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel. The dataset includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log, archived via the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Correlating meteorological conditions with oceanographic profiles based on the described underway data types.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and their relationship to physical ocean measurements.
Developing time-series models for environmental monitoring based on the logged optical and physical data.
Studying data integration and automated archiving processes for scientific vessel operations.
Strengths
Data collection spans a specific 36-day period from 2019-08-21 to 2019-09-25.
Includes multiple data types: meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, and time series.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data archived via an established automated process under the NOAA R2R program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
