Description
From April 8 to June 5, 2019, raw underway data was collected aboard NOAA Ship Pisces in the Gulf of Mexico, Indian Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean. The dataset contains meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical data logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System. NOAA's Office of Marine and Aviation Operations submitted the data and cruise-level metadata to the National Centers for Environmental Information via the Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling air-sea heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and environmental conditions based on navigational and optical data.
Creating time series profiles of oceanographic variables based on the described profile and time series data.
Validating satellite-derived oceanographic measurements based on in-situ physical and optical data.
Strengths
Data collection spans a defined two-month period from April 8 to June 5, 2019.
Covers multiple ocean basins including the Gulf of Mexico, Indian Ocean, and Atlantic Ocean.
Includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Data originates from an authoritative NOAA program (R2R) and a specific research vessel.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
