Description
NOAA Ship Pisces collected raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, and physical data in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2017-08 30 to 2017-09-08. The data were logged by the ship's Scientific Computer System and submitted to the National Centers for Environmental Information as part of the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program. This accession includes supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean-atmosphere heat and gas exchange based on underway meteorological and physical data.
Analyzing ship navigation patterns and environmental conditions based on logged navigational and optical data.
Creating time-series profiles of oceanographic variables based on the described profile and time-series data.
Strengths
Data collected from a dedicated NOAA research vessel, suggesting controlled instrumentation.
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical) for a single cruise, enabling cross-variable analysis.
Contains supplementary cruise-level metadata from the Ship Daily Activity Log.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
