Description
NODC Accession 0116843 contains raw underway meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, time series, and trawl data logged by the Scientific Computer System aboard NOAA Ship Bell M. Shimada. The data were collected in the Coastal Waters of SE Alaska and North Pacific Ocean from June to September 2013 and submitted to NODC by Office of Marine and Aviation Operations personnel under the NOAA Rolling Deck to Repository program.
Use Cases
Modeling coastal oceanographic conditions based on underway physical and profile data.
Analyzing vessel navigation patterns and environmental correlations based on logged navigational and meteorological data.
Studying time-series trends in marine optical properties mentioned in the description.
Correlating trawl data with concurrent physical oceanographic measurements.
Strengths
Data collection spans a focused 3-month period from 2013-06-06 to 2013-09 09.
Includes multiple data types (meteorological, navigational, optical, physical, profile, time series, trawl) from a single research cruise.
Data were collected and archived via an automated process under the NOAA R2R program.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
