Description
Offering dekadal (10-day) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) indicators for the United States Virgin Islands, aggregated by sub-national administrative units. Produced by the World Food Programme (WFP) using NASA MODIS Collection 6.1 satellite data, the records include current vegetation health, historical averages, and anomaly percentages.
Use Cases
Monitoring agricultural productivity by comparing current vim against the vim_lta baseline
Identifying drought or environmental stress using the viq anomaly percentage
Analyzing vegetation trends over time across specific WFP Pcode administrative units
Strengths
Utilizes NASA MODIS Collection 6.1 high-resolution satellite imagery
Includes vim_lta for direct comparison against historical vegetation baselines
Provides n_pixels column to verify the data density of each aggregate
Limitations
Geographic scope is restricted to the United States Virgin Islands
Spatial resolution is limited to administrative unit aggregates rather than raw pixel grids
Provenance
Source
World Food Programme (WFP) via NASA Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS)
Collection Method
Satellite sensor data aggregation based on WFP administrative boundaries
