Description
From January 1980 onward, this dataset contains daily surface observations from polar automatic weather stations on Antarctica. Observations are recorded every 3 hours and include surface pressure, air temperature, humidity, and wind speed and direction. The data originates from the University of Wisconsin and was last updated in 1996.
Use Cases
Modeling Antarctic surface climate trends based on multi-decadal temperature and pressure records.
Analyzing polar wind patterns and humidity based on 3-hourly observational data.
Studying daily weather variability in Antarctica based on multi-parameter surface observations.
Strengths
Multi-decadal temporal coverage starting from January 1980.
Includes multiple meteorological parameters: pressure, temperature, humidity, and wind.
High temporal resolution with observations recorded every 3 hours.
