Description
England's wastewater treatment plants monitored under the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive for the 2016 calendar year. The spatial dataset includes plants serving a population equivalent greater than 2,000 discharging to freshwater or greater than 10,000 discharging to coastal waters, with details on load, treatment types, and performance. The dataset was created by the Environment Agency but has been retired as it is out of date.
Use Cases
Assess compliance with the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive based on plant load and performance data.
Map the spatial distribution of significant wastewater treatment infrastructure in England.
Analyze the relationship between plant capacity (population equivalent) and discharge location (freshwater vs. coastal).
Strengths
Focuses on significant plants serving a population equivalent greater than 2,000 or 10,000, as defined by the directive.
Contains geospatial data for mapping and location-based analysis.
Includes specific details on load, treatment types, and performance metrics.
Limitations
The dataset is retired and relates only to the 2016 calendar year, making it outdated for current analysis.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
