2026 estimates of effective property-tax rates, median home values, and median taxes paid for all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and 3,125 counties. The dataset was created by the StateTakeHome Data & Research Team, using U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (ACS) 2024 estimates and cross-checked against other 2026 compilations.
Use Cases
Compare state-level property tax burdens based on effective rates ranging from 2.11% to 0.27%.

Model local tax liabilities based on median home values and median taxes paid for 3,125 counties.
Benchmark local tax policy using the median/median calculation methodology described.
Strengths
Covers 51 state-level jurisdictions and 3,125 counties, providing national granularity.
Data is cross-checked against multiple 2026 sources (WalletHub, Construction Coverage, Tax Foundation).
Includes a clear methodology note explaining the median/median benchmark and links to interactive calculators.
