Description
A 10 km x 10 km coordinate system based on the UTM projection using the North American Datum 83 (NAD83). The dataset includes identifiers for military grid references, fire base maps, atlas cells, and UTM map sheets. It is produced by the Government of Ontario for use with GIS software.
Use Cases
Cross-reference spatial data using the Military Grid Reference identifier for defense or resource management applications.
Organize and query fire management data by the Fire Base Map identifier within the 10 km grid framework.
Link atlas or map sheet data to specific geographic areas using the Atlas identifier and UTM Map Sheet Number.
Perform cartographic analysis and projection conversions on the standardized UTM NAD83 grid cells.
Strengths
Based on the standardized Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projection and North American Datum 83 (NAD83).
Provides multiple linked identifiers (Military Grid Reference, Fire Base Map, Atlas, UTM Map Sheet) for a single 10 km grid cell.
Maintained by the authoritative Government of Ontario.
Limitations
Sample data and structural details like row or column counts are unavailable for review.
Requires specialized GIS software for use, limiting accessibility for non-specialists.
The primary file format is HTML, which is not a standard data interchange format for geometric systems.
