Description
This geospatial dataset contains building footprints and structural attributes for Vanuatu, exported from OpenStreetMap by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT). Updated as of March 2026, it provides vector data for all features tagged with building information across the archipelago. The data is available in multiple formats including SHP, GeoJSON, and KML.
Use Cases
Urban planning and density analysis using building:levels and building type tags
Disaster risk assessment based on construction types found in the building:materials column
Navigation and logistics support using addr:street and addr:city for geocoding
Strengths
Multilingual support with specific columns for name:en, name:fr, and name:bis
Available in four standard geospatial formats: SHP, GEOJSON, GEOPACKAGE, and KML
Includes structural metadata such as building:materials and building:levels for mapped features
Limitations
Volunteer-contributed data leads to inconsistent attribute completeness across different regions
Potential for temporal lag between physical construction and OpenStreetMap updates
