Description
Vestfold Hills Lake Bathymetry contains bathymetric contour data for 14 lakes and fjords in the Vestfold Hills, Antarctica. The data was collected by the Australian Antarctic Data Centre using echo sounding and weighted line methods, with positional accuracy ranging from ±5 meters to ±2 centimeters. The dataset was last updated on March 15, 1999.
Use Cases
Modeling lake volume and water storage capacity based on bathymetric contours.
Analyzing underwater topography for geological or glaciological studies based on depth and position data.
Creating base maps for ecological surveys of Antarctic lakes based on the included water body list.
Strengths
Includes data for 14 distinct water bodies, such as Ace Lake and Ellis Fjord.
Specifies positional accuracy (±5 meters for most lakes, ±2 centimeters for Ellis Fjord) and depth accuracy (±2 meters).
Describes specific collection methods (echo sounding, triangulation from ice) for different lakes.
