42 video transects and 6,229 still photographs were collected from the Eastern Australian Margin during the TAN0713 survey between October and November 2007. The survey, conducted on the Tangaroa, explored deep-sea habitats and geological features in water depths of 259-2,260 meters. Data was gathered by a collaboration including the Australian Ocean Data Network, NIWA, Fugro Robertson Inc., and the University of the Sea.
Use Cases
- Analyze deep-sea habitat distribution based on video transects
- Assess geological features for petroleum potential based on survey aims
- Study benthic communities using still photographs from specific stations
- Map underwater terrain using the referenced post-survey reports
Strengths
- 42 video transects each approximately 1 hour in duration
- 6,229 still photographs acquired
- Specific water depth range recorded (259-2,260 meters)
- Survey conducted by a multi-institutional collaboration
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data may reflect geographic/temporal bias inherent to data_gov_au
