Description
NOAA-21 VIIRS Version 2 data provides three vegetation indices—NDVI, EVI, and EVI2—at a 0.05-degree resolution. The product is designed by LPCLOUD for continuity with the MODIS mission and includes additional layers for reflectance, quality, and pixel statistics. It is processed by selecting the best available pixel over monthly acquisition periods.
Use Cases
Monitor global vegetation health and phenology based on the NDVI, EVI, and EVI2 indices.
Assess canopy cover and chlorophyll sensitivity using the complementary EVI and NDVI layers.
Analyze data quality and reliability for specific regions using the included pixel reliability and quality layers.
Study reflectance properties across different spectral bands using the red, blue, green, NIR, and SWIR reflectance layers.
Strengths
Provides three distinct vegetation indices (NDVI, EVI, EVI2) for comparative analysis.
Includes supplementary data layers such as reflectance values, pixel counts, and quality flags.
Designed for continuity with the long-term MODIS Terra and Aqua Vegetation Indices product suite.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
