Description
Ocean temperature, salinity, and hydrostatic pressure data collected from CTD casts around a large tabular iceberg designated PII-B. The dataset also includes conductivity and sound velocity measurements, with the distance from the iceberg recorded for each cast. Data was gathered from the MV NEPTUNE in Baffin Bay between July 25 and August 3, 2012, and is archived by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information.
Use Cases
Modeling ocean temperature gradients based on proximity to a large iceberg.
Analyzing salinity variations in meltwater plumes around iceberg PII-B.
Studying sound velocity profiles in polar waters using conductivity data.
Correlating hydrostatic pressure with depth and location relative to the iceberg.
Strengths
Data includes multiple oceanographic variables: temperature, salinity, pressure, conductivity, and sound velocity.
Specific temporal coverage from 2012-07-25 to 2012-08 03.
Spatial context is provided with recorded distance from iceberg PII-B for each cast.
Limitations
Last updated 2012-08-03 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
