Description
From 2017-02 14 to 2019-04-16, this dataset contains water-column profiles of salinity, temperature, pressure, and turbidity, water velocity data, time-series mooring measurements, and seabed sediment grain-size distributions from the Coos Bay Estuary in Oregon. Data were collected by the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology using CTD, ADCP, and grab sampling equipment from research vessels Pugettia and Pluteus, as well as a personal watercraft. The data are archived by NOAA NCEI in NetCDF format.
Use Cases
Modeling estuarine circulation and stratification based on CTD profiles of salinity and temperature.
Analyzing sediment transport dynamics based on ADCP velocity data and turbidity measurements.
Characterizing benthic habitats based on grain-size distributions from seabed grab and core samples.
Calibrating hydrodynamic models using time-series water level and temperature data from near-bed moorings.
Strengths
Data collection spans over two years, from February 2017 to April 2019.
Integrates multiple complementary data types: water-column profiles, current velocity, time-series moorings, and sediment samples.
Specifies the instruments used, including RBR CTD with OBS and an RDI 600 kHz ADCP.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
