The West of Scotland Pest Free Area dataset defines a boundary established in 2005 where the absence of specific bark beetles can be demonstrated. This status, maintained by the UK Government Digital Service, enables the export of conifer roundwood to Ireland. The boundary was predicated on extensive surveys including pheromone trapping.
Additional restrictions for part of the area are documented in a separate 'Buffer Zone' dataset.
