Description
Wheat yield resilience metrics are summarized for 10km grid cells in England over a ten-year time-series from 2008 to 2017. The dataset includes mean yield, relative yield, yield stability, and resistance to the 2012 extreme weather event, calculated from the Defra Cereals and Oilseeds production survey of commercial farms. It was created by the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology under the ASSIST project to explore the impact of landscape structure on yield resilience.
Use Cases
Analyze the relationship between yield stability and resistance to the 2012 extreme weather event across different 10km grid cells.
Model the impact of landscape structure on mean yield and relative yield using the ten-year time-series data.
Filter and assess sampling bias by utilizing the provided number of samples per year per hectad.
Explore spatial patterns of agricultural resilience by mapping metrics like mean yield and yield stability for hectads with consistent sampling.
Strengths
Ten-year time-series from 2008 to 2017 provides longitudinal analysis of yield trends.
Data is summarized at a consistent 10km x 10km grid cell (hectad) resolution for spatial comparability.
Includes multiple calculated resilience metrics: mean yield, relative yield, yield stability, and resistance to an extreme event.
Applies a data quality filter, excluding hectads with data from fewer than 9 farm holdings across the time series to maintain anonymity.
Limitations
Spatial coverage is limited to hectads with at least one sampled farm holding in every year from 2008-2017, potentially omitting areas with intermittent data.
The dataset's utility for fine-grained analysis is constrained by the 10km resolution, which aggregates farm-level data.
Temporal coverage ends in 2017, which may limit analysis of recent agricultural trends or climate impacts.
