Description
3293 X-ray point sources detected in the 9 square degree Bootes field using 126 Chandra ACIS-I observations, each approximately 5000 seconds long. The catalog, created by NASA HEASARC in February 2006, provides source positions, fluxes, and hardness ratios for sources with at least 4 counts in the 0.5-7 keV band. This survey was designed to search for large-scale structure and calculate source statistics with arcsecond resolution and uniform coverage.
Use Cases
Identify and classify X-ray-selected sources based on optical spectroscopic follow-up and the NDWFS dataset mentioned in the description.
Calculate X-ray source statistics over a wide, contiguous field of view as described.
Search for large-scale structure using the arcsecond angular resolution and uniform coverage of the survey.
Analyze the relationship between X-ray flux and hardness ratios for the 3293 cataloged point sources.
Strengths
Contains 3293 point sources with a high reliability threshold of ~99%.
Covers a wide, contiguous 9 square degree field with uniform coverage and arcsecond resolution.
Based on 126 separate Chandra ACIS-I observations, each of approximately 5000 seconds duration.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The catalog excludes 43 detected extended sources, which are noted as not included.
