Description
XMM-SUSS6.1 is a catalog of 9,920,390 optical and ultraviolet source detections from the European Space Agency's XMM-Newton observatory. The catalog contains data from 12,057 observations processed with XMM Science Analysis Software and spans observations from 2000 to November 2022. NASA HEASARC ingested this sixth release, produced by ESA in October 2023, into its database.
Use Cases
Cross-matching ultraviolet sources with other astronomical catalogs based on observation IDs and source positions.
Analyzing source detection magnitude limits across different optical filters mentioned in the description.
Studying temporal variability of celestial objects using the 22-year observation time range.
Harmonizing analysis with XMM-Newton Science Archive pipeline data based on the described processing philosophy.
Strengths
Covers a 22-year observation period from 2000 to November 2022.
Contains 9,920,390 entries corresponding to 6,659,554 unique sources.
Based on 12,057 distinct observations (OBSIDs) from the XMM-Newton observatory.
Processed with standardized XMM Science Analysis Software versions 18 and 19.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
