Description
YukonAge 2004 contains 1,566 isotopic age determinations from 1,166 rock samples, compiled from 185 published articles, theses, and reports. This relational database from the Government of Yukon allows querying by age, location, or source, and is the third in a series of compilations.
Use Cases
Analyze age and error distributions across different rock types and geological units to identify regional geological events.
Map sample locations using NTS map area, latitude/longitude, or UTM coordinates to visualize spatial patterns of isotopic ages.
Assess data reliability by filtering determinations based on the provided reliability rating and comments.
Trace provenance by linking age determinations to their original sources via the references, author, and journal title fields.
Strengths
Contains 1,566 age determinations from 1,166 distinct rock samples.
Compiles data from 185 distinct sources, including articles, theses, and reports.
Data is fully relational with three linked tables for structured querying.
Limitations
Requires Microsoft Access 2000 or XP (2002) to use, creating a significant software dependency barrier.
The dataset is from 2004, making the compiled age determinations potentially outdated for current research.
Sample location precision may vary as coordinates can be specified as NTS mapsheet, terrane polygon, or decimal lat-long.
