Description
Geoscience Australia Data publishes the AUSTopo - Australian Digital Topographic Map Series. The series comprises 516 standard maps covering the entire continent at a 1:250,000 scale, where each standard sheet covers approximately 150 by 110 kilometers. Maps contain natural and constructed features including infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, and 50-meter contours, and are available as digital PDF downloads.
Use Cases
Regional land-use planning based on depicted infrastructure, vegetation, and hydrography.
Terrain analysis and modeling based on 50-meter contour intervals.
Creating base maps for field studies based on the standardized topographic features.
Assessing transportation networks based on depicted road and rail infrastructure.
Strengths
Covers the entire Australian continent with 516 standard maps, the largest scale for full coverage.
Each standard map covers a consistent area of approximately 150 km east-west by 110 km north-south.
Contains multiple natural and constructed feature layers, including contours, hydrography, and infrastructure.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Data is provided in PDF format, which may require conversion for direct geospatial analysis.
Freshness should be verified; the last update timestamp is 2026-03-25 18:02:40.164724.
