Description
Colombia's zoning map for pasture production suitability at a 1:100,000 scale. It integrates physical and socio-ecosystem criteria to classify land for common guinea, mombaza, tanzania, and massai grasses. The dataset has been used as an input for zoning the suitability of national and export beef and dairy production under grazing systems.
Use Cases
Classifying land suitability categories (Aptitud) based on physical and socio-ecosystem variables using the_geom and Gridcode.
Calculating the total area in hectares (Área (ha)) for each suitability class (Aptitud) to quantify available land for pasture.
Mapping the spatial distribution of high, medium, low, and unsuitable zones (Aptitud) for pasture production using the_geom.
Identifying legally excluded areas (Aptitud) where pasture establishment is prohibited for land-use policy analysis.
Strengths
Provides a detailed land suitability classification with five distinct categories (Aptitud Alta, Media, Baja, No Apta, Exclusión legal).
Includes geometric data (the_geom) and area calculations in hectares (Área (ha)) for spatial analysis.
Created at a detailed cartographic scale of 1:100,000 for regional planning.
Limitations
Row count and total dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale processing.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
