Zooplankton, oceanographic profile, and other data were collected from the NATHANIEL B. PALMER in the Antarctic Ocean (> 60 degrees South) from 08 September 1996 to 25 April 1997. The data were collected in support of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) / Southern Ocean and the US JGOFS Antarctic Environments Southern Ocean Process Study (AESOPS) projects. Zooplankton were collected using a Multiple Opening Closing Net and Environmental Sampling System (MOCNESS), and bottle parameters include concentrations of trace metals.
Use Cases
- Analyze zooplankton community structure based on MOCNESS net collection data
- Study oceanographic conditions based on conductivity, temperature, and salinity profiles
- Investigate trace metal concentrations in the Antarctic Ocean based on bottle data
- Model biogeochemical fluxes in the Southern Ocean based on the JGOFS/AESOPS project data
Strengths
- Data collected from a specific research vessel, the NATHANIEL B. PALMER
- Focus on the Antarctic Ocean (> 60 degrees South)
- Time-series data spanning from 08 September 1996 to 25 April 1997
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Last updated 1997-04-25 00:00:00; freshness should be verified
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
