Description
COVADIS data standard provides a technical framework for dematerialising local planning documents (LDPs) and land use plans (POS/PLU) into an interoperable spatial database. The standard, developed by the Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières, was based on specifications updated in 2012 by the CNIG and the urban planning code from March 2012. It covers graphic zoning plans, superimposed requirements, and regulations for different area types to enable GIS usage.
Use Cases
Creating digital inventories of local planning documents based on the COVADIS standard framework.
Developing GIS tools for visualizing municipal zoning plans and regulations.
Analyzing land use regulations for specific area types as defined in the standard.
Supporting interoperability between different urban planning data systems.
Strengths
Based on a formal national standard (COVADIS) aligned with 2012 CNIG specifications.
Designed for interoperability and use within GIS tools.
Covers multiple aspects of planning documents: graphics, requirements, and regulations.
