Description
From March 21 to June 7, 2007, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers collected wave and current data in Kuhio Bay, Hilo, Hawaii. Data were gathered at three fixed locations using bottom-mounted Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs). The dataset is archived by NOAA's National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
Use Cases
Modeling nearshore wave energy based on ADCP measurements from three locations.
Analyzing coastal current patterns for sediment transport studies based on the fixed-location data collection.
Calibrating hydrodynamic models using the time-series data collected from March to June 2007.
Assessing instrument performance and deployment strategies based on the described battery power loss of one unit.
Strengths
Data collected over a defined period from March 21 to June 7, 2007.
Measurements taken at three distinct fixed locations for spatial comparison.
Instruments included RD Instruments Workhorse, 1.2 MHz ADCPs, with one unit capable of wave measurements.
Limitations
One of the three ADCP units lost battery power on April 7, 2007, creating a data gap.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
